Ivanhoe Elementary School – Los Angeles, CA
November 29, 2008 | Filed Under Skateboarding, SpotCheck | No CommentsIvanhoe Elementary School is located out in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles. There is a kinked rail off a 3 stair, bricked runway that you can skate. You have to gap out a little in order to slide the rail but it’s pretty low. The landing is pretty short. Be careful of the neighbors as they are not too fond of the noise and will try to kick you out or better yet, call the cops. During the 15 minute time span that we had Jeremy was able to drop a banger for his VIMBY part.

Jessie Hayden Elementary – Midway City, CA
November 28, 2008 | Filed Under Skateboarding, SpotCheck | No CommentsWe paid a visit to some of the homeys from the OC area to get some more filming done for our VIMBY part. We stopped by this new elementary school that’s sure to be the new hot spot AFTER we get done with it. It’s called Jessie Hayden Elementary School located out in Midway City near Westminster, CA. The school consists of some new curved, buttery, ledges that ranges from about half a foot to one and a half foot high. You might want to bring some wax while you’re out here to break them in a little bit more since they’re fairly new and still need to be grinded out a bit.

November 27, 2008 | Filed Under Lifestyle, Skateboarding, Videos | No CommentsToday marks the 4th Thursday of November in which Americans celebrate a holiday named Thanksgiving Day. (Have you ever noticed that the past couple of Thanksgivings have been celebrated on different days? Just some food for thought.) As I’m sitting back, relaxing and typing away on my computer I’ve been thinking a lot about things that have been going on with my life lately. I guess that I’ve been working so hard with business and trying to “come up” that I haven’t had time to reflect back to the basics; to what really mattered to me the most, my happiness. The simple thought of rolling on a piece of wood with 2 metal trucks and 4 urethane wheels brings nothing but a huge fucken smile to my face. No hammers. No Switch Flippin’ a 20 stair or Backside Lipping a 15 stair rail. Just the pure thought of rolling. The basics. Some of you might understand this and some of you might not even get it at all. Filming for this VIMBY part has made me realize that even though I’m not landing my tricks or lines the way I wanted, there’s no need to stress out over it. I should be thankful that I even have the opportunity to live in this world, and to be able to skate is an added bonus. (That alone should be enough.) Now don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t push yourself to be the best that you can be, but remember why you started skateboarding in the first place. It wasn’t to get sponsored or to get free shit, it was for FUN. Let the good times roll and give thanks.
Headlines Diner & Press Club – Westwood, CA
November 26, 2008 | Filed Under Lifestyle | No CommentsAfter the hectic night at the STIX premiere we decided to go grab some breakfast and coffee over at HEADLINES located out in Westwood. The prices ranged from about $7-$9 for a huge, combination platter of eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, and bread. Not too bad considering that this is a eat-in, diner type spot and the prices usually range from $10 and up. Not sure if it was because I was still drunk from the night before or what, but the pancakes served there had a crepe type texture to it that melted in your mouth like candy. Gotta order those if you’re ever around this area. You can read some of the YELP reviews over HERE.

DECAP & EGGROLE! (Shouldn’t it be spelled “EggRoll“?)
After breakfast, we decided to head over to Downtown LA to get our skate on. Coincidentally we ran into some student protesters walking down the street. Everyone had signs that said “Education Is A Right.” Thought that it was going to be another one of those NO On Prop 8 marches again.

STIX “Grip Like A Vice” (RECAP)
November 25, 2008 | Filed Under Events, Lifestyle, Videos | No CommentsOhman, I don’t even know where the fuck to begin with this savage night that went down over at the STIX premiere in the Rialto Theatre. Let’s see, where should I begin? Well the night started off with some pre-partying, then as we got to the parking lot we did some more pre-partying aka “Parking Lot Pimpin” by finishing off the rest of the beers. One of the funniest parts (Oh there’s more to this.) of the night was having about 20+ people deep drinking beers in the parking lot (not paying attention) and having the cops creeping up on us shining their spotlights! Needless to say everybody’s beer went flying everywhere on the ground. Close call. While walking into the premiere already drunk and waiting in line, some of the crew got lost and parted ways. Unbeknownst to me the other guys, (We won’t mention any names *cough* Steve.) decided to go grab a $8 bottle of gin to sneak inside the theatre. Do you know where this is leading to? By the end of the night, one of us was completely GONE.

I’ve never seen so much support and hype that went behind a skateboarding video before, besides LAKAI’s “Fully Flared” so it was good to see people coming out and supporting the skaters. Especially some of our very own crew members that were featured in the film, Randy Chew & Damian Trammell. Props to the heads over at STIX for throwing a dope venue.

Cops already setting up and the venue hasn’t even started.
If you have never been to a skateboarding video premiere before then go ahead and mark that on your “To-Do” list before you die. (Go ahead, I’ll wait.) Raging hormonal teens mixed with alcohol and weed all gathered together in one spot can result in extremely hilarious (and sometimes violent) times. To start off the premiere this random dude just jumped up on stage and started dancing for everyone. After 2 minutes of this, the security guard decided to end it but couldn’t because they couldn’t catch him. He was too fast running around the theatre up and down the aisles. Hahaha, props to the dude for making everyone laugh. Don’t know if he ever made it to watch the movie premiere though.

Drunk Dude
I’m not going to spoil the movie by telling you who dropped what and what went down on your favorite skatespots but all I have to say is that future recruit Tony Karr got 2nd to last part and David Vargas (I think.) had last. To my surprise I was impressed with the tricks and video editing. Go support the skate scene and purchase their DVD and see what went down or you can view the trailer HERE.

Closing Credits

Thank you for coming…

“Excuse Me”

“Pardon Me”
As the night ended, it got better. As I was lost and trying to meet up with the crew, a fight persued. Don’t know who or for what reason, but I found out later that Steve was so drunk out of his mind that he was in the middle of it all! If you check out the clip below you can see the early stages of the fight and as the crowd started pushing each other back and forth poor Steve lost his balance and hit his head in the back of the glass mirror behind him, shattering the glass into a gazillion pieces. (That’s what that $8 bottle of gin will do to you son!) Don’t worry though, good ol’ Steve came out unscathed and free from injuries besides alcohol poisoning. (Just check out the 6 second mark in the clip.)

Pre Party
November 25, 2008 | Filed Under Lifestyle, Videos | No CommentsBefore the STIX premiere we decided to stop by the homey Gabriel’s house for some pre-partying out in the Silver Lake area. Let’s just say we wanted (or should I say “I”) wanted to get fucked up that night from not landing my shit. Hours of repeating the same skateboard tricks and coming close but not landing is like fucking and not being able to nut, very frustrating. Enough of this emo, dramatic, sympathetic attempt to gain some attention from you guys, let’s just jump to the goods. An 18 pack of Coors, 12 pack of Corona’s over at CVS and a couple of beers later, we decided to have a friendly competition of “Who Can Drink Beer The Fastest” by Steve Cuellar. Let’s just say we were all sloshed/twisted/clobbered/hammered/juiced/loaded/pickled/shitfaced/trashed/totalled in just a couple of minutes.
(More to come to this 2 part series later on this afternoon around 1pm so stay tuned…)

Washington Irving Middle School – Los Angeles, CA
November 24, 2008 | Filed Under Skateboarding, SpotCheck | No CommentsJust got back from a savage weekend filming again for our VIMBY part. (Looks like we’re going to need all the time we need, due to lack of sunlight (Gets dark at 5pm nowadays), skills and pure laziness. Can we say “Waaaaashed Up“?) Our first stop was over at Washington Irving Middle School, famous for it’s 10-12 stair, waist high ledge with a kink at the end and a 15 ft drop on the other side. This is where Jason Dill Backside 50-50′ed that badboy in a skate video. Rather than tossing our carcasses on that thing (Maybe some other day.) we opted on skating the other side of the school (across the street) where there were two, low picnic tables lined up one after another. After several hours of repeating, “One more try!”, (Ooohh roughly about a hundred times) everyone in the crew couldn’t do shit, except for the Quailman, Steve. That’s how skateboarding goes sometimes. Either you’re on point or you’re not. Round 2 here we come!
