ANML x RICKS
Our homeys over at Born Ugly Magazine in Virginia recently released their latest Issue #3 over on their website. Born Ugly is a FREE online & published magazine with content focused on the lives of people that skateboard for the love of it. (This means they make this shit for FREE out of their own pockets.) You might remember seeing our interview with them from Issue #2. If not then you can check it out over HERE. If you don’t see your local skateshop carrying these magazines then you should tell them to hit Born Ugly up aqui.
Alright, I hardly ever post random shit like this that has absolutely nothing to do with Skate All Cities, skating, and/or graffiti but this is some shit that you need to watch. If you have about a good 1.5 hours worth of free time then you should give it a go. It is a movie created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio talking about the economic crisis on Global Warming that we are all currently facing that you should be aware of. You probably might not give a fuck about it now because you will probably be dead by the time this happens, but if you are aware of what’s going on and change some of the ways that you live your daily life then everyone can prosper in the long run and you can actually save money. Did that get your attention yet?

This ledge is probably most recognizable for P-Rod’s latest commercial “Today Was A Good Day” with Ice Cube where he does a Frontside Nosegrind with the City of LA in the foreground. Bobby Worrest also dropped an ill Switch Backside Nosegrind to Bigspin out on his part in Transworld’s “Right Foot Forward”. The ground approach to this curb is extremely rough and is awkward to hit. Someone bondo’ed the entry and exit of the ledge, but as you’re about to ollie; the ground dips down slightly. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you get here. The ledge is located towards the back of the building; away from the street and closer to the train tracks and LA River.

Right as our boy Steve landed his Backside Nosegrind and tried to get it on film, this guy decided to stop by. All he said was, “You’re not suppose to skate here, but I’m leaving now and won’t come back.” What the fuck does that mean? Hahaha. We were over it by then.

The homeys from AL invited us to hit a wall over by the train tracks in the El Sereno/Alhambra area recently. After gathering enough scraps from our trunks this is what we came up with. The production was nowhere near complete the day that I took the photos, but I’m sure that everything will be done by the time you read this.
EDIT: Updated photos of the production over at KZERGABEGALLERY.com

Huntington Drive Elementary School was the old stomping grounds. Back when the Skate All Cities gang were little grommets learning how to skateboard; we use to come here to session the banks to learn how to do Frontside Ollies. (Wow, that was a good minute.) Somehow we were around the old neighborhood of Lincoln Heights while driving around town and stumbled upon this spot again and realized that this was one of the schools that everyone skates in videos? WTF. I guess back then we weren’t as creative with skating obstacles as we are now.
For instance, we have the “Ghetto Launcher”. Those grates have been there forever but someone was clever enough to unscrew the bolts, place a bench under it for leverage, and throw a lunch table in front of it for those balancing good times. Very creative. Maybe we weren’t smoking enough or too much weed back then to think of that?

This school is probably most famous for the 13 stair gap over rail. Everyone’s done something over it, including Eric Koston’s Heelflip.

Then you have 2 “Bench To Banks” spots as you enter the school. A mellow version and then a steeper/beefy’er version.

Steep And Challenging
Located out somewhere in the middle of California are the Infamous Albertson Ledges. Yup, these are the sames ones that everyone and their mom skates in videos. The ledges are roughly about knee high with the slickest formula known to mankind applied to them; so there’s no need to bring your Momma’s Virgin Mary Candle with you if you happen to find this spot. You should keep it for those Quinceañera nights by the way.
We usually post up directions on how to get to most of the spots that we visit through our Spotcheck category, but some of the crew members (Steve) thought that it would be best if we didn’t. So no Google Map directions for you this time around; sorry.

The bust factor here is roughly about a 50/50 ratio. Sometimes you get the boot and sometimes you can skate here all day. I guess that it just depends on the weather?

“No Skateboarding, Skating or Bicycling on RICKS premises.”
So the homeys have been hearing about this so-called butteryass, metal-ledged loading dock that’s down in the Oxnard area that was skateable. After roughly about 6 different attempts (all on different weekends) at trying to find this spot (with wrong directions) we finally found it, but guess fucken what? There was a huge fucken dumpster in the way of all of this shit, FML.

Really?
If you’ve been catchin the latest Games Of Skate (GOS) over at the Battle At The Berrics 2, then you might have seen crew member Tony Karr rockin our latest Skate All Cities Extinguisher t-shirt (Which is available HERE by the way.) on his Nose Manual to Nollie Flip Out through a watered down manual pad for his latest STEREO commercial. (It was for the Cory Kennedy vs Greg Lutzka game.) No wonder we found a huge surge in traffic hits on our website a couple of weeks ago, NOT.
