Brothers From Different Mothers

Meet the “Martinez Brothers”.  Gabriel & Abijah Martinez have been ripping the streets of Los Angeles since the mid 90′s and have been lifelong “brothers from different mothers” of mine since we first met while skateboarding the Alhambra/South Pasadena areas.  They are (of course) one of the older members of the Skate All Cities Krew.  Way before we even had stickers, boards or anything.  When it was just a pigment of our imagination.

This past weekend I was lucky enough to find some time out of our busy schedules to meet up and skate with these guys.  Needless to say, it was nothing but good times reminiscing on how we use to (and still do) some of the silliest and craziest shit that we can imagine.

On our way to skate Channel Street Skatepark, we met up with ex professional skateboarder, Chuck Wampler.  I’m not sure if you know what Chuck does as his day job, but he is a cop.  Yah you heard it.  We went and skated with a cop, and one that fucken rips.  Go figure, LOL!

There’s some interesting history and reasoning behind why Chuck decided to pursue his career as a police officer after skateboarding.  Back in the day when everyone was shredding Lockwood High, he was approached by the local neighborhood gangsters and was robbed for his friend’s camera.  Needless to say, anyone who’s down for their shit will do whatever it takes to defend their respect and honor.  Unfortunately, Chuck was shot 4-5 times and was sent to the hospital.  The fucked up thing about the whole situation?  The shooter only got 5 years and he’s already out with premeditated robbery and attempted murder. (OUCH)

After dorking around on the bowls, we got down with what we knew best; skating street.  And to start it off the Martinez brothers had a friendly Game Of Skate (GOS) with Cooper Wilt.

Boston to Los Angeles transplant, Justin Maruco, was also in attendance.

“Is that Robbie Russo in between Abijah’s Bigspin Treflip?”  That was random.
