The FREEDOM art show debuted at MAGIC back around the middle of February and was such a huge success it is now being brought to life in Los Angeles this Saturday at KNOWN GALLERY. It’s worth your time to go check out if you’re in the LA area because the line of artists are pretty amazing.

We stopped by the TRADITION shop in Westlake Village this past weekend to show our support for Los Angeles based graffiti artists RUETS & ASYLM’s show entitled “Sources of Inspiration & Damnation“. The turn out was amazing with people coming from up and down the California coast. There were even a few heads (or 1 really) that came all the down from San Diego to check it out. That’s a long 4 hour drive, but I’m sure that the “FREE BEER” that was being offered at the end of the road made it just that much sweeter.
If other shops want to know how to gain a good working relationship with their clientele through marketing, then you should be taking notes on what TRADITION is doing. Not only do they carry some of the most popular and upcoming brands in the industry, but they also throw FREE SHOWS…consistently. I repeat, “FREE SHOWS…consistently”. Now how many of your local shops that you support does that? I’m sure that there a few out there, but I can bet that there’s not too many. Especially since everyone’s being tight with their finances and trying to save through “The Recession”. Just check out the last party that TRADITION had with RAEKWON from Wu-Tang.

This past Friday The Grove Theatre in Upland, CA was host to COVERT’s newest skateboarding video entitled, “Still Broke“. If you were one of the lucky people to get a hold of the SOLD OUT tickets then you should be as happy as Charlie from the Chocolate Factory. Raffles and Giveaways were present, as well as drunken antics throughout the course of the night that kept you entertained for hours. All in all a fun night for everyone who attended. The video should be available through DVD in the next couple of months. Thanks to Doug Des Autels for taking the photos.

While cruising around the streets of LA last weekend, we ran into the COVERT skateboarding team trying to film some last minute footage for their latest video entitled, “Still Broke”. Coincidentally Abijah and I joined in on the fun and were able to catch a couple of tricks for their Friends section. Talk about good timing. See ya’ll there at the premiere!

This past weekend the homeys rented out a 12 passenger van for the “COPE2 x Bubbles Magazine” event that went down at the AirGrafx Shop located out in Long Beach, CA. My original intent was to stay home and play some “Call of Duty:MW2” since the weather was super-shitty that day, but I somehow convinced myself that it’s been a looooong time since a large number of us have had a chance to get together to hang out and just straight up fuck around; so I decided to go along for the ride. Fueled up on Gatorade, Water, Beer, Gummy Bears, Weed, Porn and an assortment of music from various iPods, we were ready to head out to the LBC to see what this event had in store for us.

“I see you lookin…”
Right as we arrived to the event we heard that COPE2 wasn’t even there due to unexplainable reasons, so shit was already beginning to turn sour a little bit, however, there were still a large number of people in attendance to show their support regardless of the weather or the no-show. I guess that it could have probably been the girls from Bubbles Magazine that had all kinds of guys flocking in and out of the door; left and right. I mean, live painting by graf artists on hot girls? Hmmm, sounds like a legit combination. Can’t hate on that as extremely as corny that may sound.

Halfway through the show I just about had more than enough “Hip-Hop” music ringing in my ears than I can handle for next 20 years. Oh yeah, did I mention that I also had a nice “burnt taco taste” in my mouth for $1.25 earlier? I think the highlight of the show/event went towards the MC’s that were battling at the end of the night: 2 Mexicans vs 6 Blacks. Let’s just say the 2 beat the 6 hands down with some of the funniest rhymes I’ve heard in a minute. Overall a good night hanging out with the crew.
